Michael Fox – Glass Artist
Michael Fox is a great artist and also my brother. He’s a got his own ideas about just about everything, and alsways comes up with provocative work. He’s also a highly skilled glassblower. This video was made of a performance piece that he did called “Crafting the Key of Art”. His piece is about exploring perennial tug of war between art and craft, inspired by the name of his graduate school California College of the Arts (CCA), formerly California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC). We used the musical notes of those acronyms to create the main musical motif (CCA, CCAC). Having the band (The Immaterial Marching Band) march through a sedate art opening was a stroke of pure genius, and managed to both delight and offend everyone present.

Here’s a short video that I put together from footage shot at Pilchuck Glass School in 2007, when Michael’s design was chosen to be the centerpiece for the school’s annual auction.
