The Moonlight Project

The Moonlight Project is a cycle of songs about memory, love and loss. It is inspired by notion that the reflected light of the moon is like the memory of a love affair, where the lover is the sun. Sometimes the memory is better than the affair itself…and as we grow older, we realize more and more the vast scale of the universe and the small sliver of time that is our lifetime.

Conceived in collaboration with Seanie Blue, the project has grown in scope to become…well, we’re not sure. An iPad app? A musical? An art installation? Maybe all of them, maybe none. We’ve written and recorded a dozen tunes, and have made multiple versions of all of them. We’re trying to scratch our way towards something new here – who says there has to be a definitive version of a tune? Why can’t you add layers and layers of harmony and embellishment onto a track and then take out everything except the embellishment?

Along the way, we’ve worked with dozens of talented artists and musicians, and I am indebted to all of them. Here’s a few pieces to get you started…

Flying Blind

The lines on your face
Trace a map of the pain inside
Where once there was grace
Now erased by the tears you cried

I see the red light up ahead
I see the red lights shine
I am flying, I keep flying
I am flying blind

If I tell you the truth
I lie to myself

There’s something wrong here
And we both know it
There’s something wrong
But we don’t show it

If I tell you the truth
I lie to myself
I lie to myself to tell you the truth
