Peter Fox is an award winning composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He began studying classical piano at age 7, and soon took up guitar, which remains his second major instrument. He studied theory, composition, and orchestration with composer and Appalachian music specialist Philip Rhodes at Carleton College, where he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Filmmaking and Music.
Peter has continued to learn new instruments and formally study a variety of music. He studied Indonesian music in Ubud, Bali where he learned Tingklik, a bamboo xylophone that is used to accompany Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet) performances. He studied sitar in Varanasi, India with Dr. Raj Bhan Singh, Dean Emeritus of the School of Music of the Benares Hindu University. In Greece, he learned the bouzouki and rembetico, traditional Greek soul music. In addition, Peter plays bass, mandolin, accordion, harmonica, saxophone, and organ. This command of a wide variety of instruments and authentic experience with music from both East and West is reflected in the music that he writes and produces.
As a composer, Peter has written scores for films, television and theatre, including music for the Emmy award winning show "The Amazing Race" for CBS. Some recent scoring projects include a documentary for the Inter-American Development Bank, and the indie films "Red is the Color Of", a dark romance, "Knight to F4", a comedy, and "Broken Idyll" a psychological thriller.
As a songwriter, arranger and producer Peter has worked with many artists. Some recent credits: Bird York (The Velvet Hour - nominated for a best song Oscar in 2006), Rachel Yamagata (Happenstance), Tom Freund (Copper Moon). Peter’s own release, Americana Motel, was named "Top 10 of 2001" by the Wall Street Journal.
Most recently, Peter has written, produced and performed with Finnish actress and singer Irina Bjorklund. They have released two CDs, Oh L’Amour and Vintage Espresso and currently perform in Finland and the US.
